Location Research and Risk Assessment

Location Research

For our opening sequence, we are filming at five locations – Apex Park, Manor Gardens, an alleyway near Sophie’s house, Shannon’s house and here at school. We have chosen these locations because they suit our purposes perfectly and are easily accessible.

Our first location is Apex Park. We chose this location as it contains a wide variety of terrains that suit our needs perfectly. We are using the small area of woodland, the park, the lake and the paths. The woodland area is perfect as it ties in with the conventions of our genre – psychological thrillers. This location is also very accessible as it is a short walk from our school (as shown in the image below).

Our second location is Manor Gardens. We chose this location as it is an old, grand manor house that we can adapt to suit our needs of it looking like an old mental asylum. This incorporates to the conventions of psychological thrillers of large, dilapidated buildings. We can easily walk to the location from school without much trouble.

Our third location is an alleyway near Sophie’s house. We have chosen this as it is very easy to get to, secluded so there is less chance of interruption and will help create a tense atmosphere in our opening sequence. Also, we don’t need any kind of permission to film in this location which saves us time.

Our fourth location is Shannon’s house. We chose this location as it is always accessible, easy to get permission to use and suits our needs well as it is a terraced house. We can also ensure we’re not interrupted as we can pick a time when Shannon’s family are not home.

Our final location is at school, which is very accessible and we don’t need to worry about interruptions from the public. There is a room in school which suits our needs perfectly as a cell in an asylum as it is small and plain. It is also very dark, which integrates the conventions we need to include for our psychological thriller opening sequence.

  1. It was Shannon's job to do the location research, but Lester also contributed to this section towards the end.
Dom's job was to create the risk assessment, which me and Lester helped come up with ideas for.
